NFL Takes $30M Hit From Its Own Cash Cow For Playing Politics

This has been a terrible year for the NFL. There are still many fans who want to enjoy the sport. And many players who want to do the right thing.

Yet the league has coddled a small group of entitled losers. This has led to a significant drop in viewership.

Thanks to the Anthem protests, many fans are switching off. They don’t want to watch a sport that rewards people who insult our country.

Men that are being paid huge salaries choose to insult the very nation that allows them to do so. Sorry, but we have better things to do than watch them throw around a ball.

It turns out that decreased viewership has been taking its toll. The NFL was forced to pay back some of the advertising money companies paid out. The amount reached a whopping $30 million.

From Breitbart:

With the 2017 NFL season now down in the record books as having lost another ten percent in TV ratings, the league has found a $30 million dip in ad revenue, a report says.

As the final numbers for advertisement sales for the season were tallied, the league discovered that its revenue fell 1.2 percent because “makegoods” rose to beat rate increases. A makegood is a partial repayment of money charged to advertisers because the viewership did not reach the expected numbers to justify the top rate.

Revenue was reported at “$2.42 billion, down from $2.45 billion in 2016,” according to media industry trade magazine Ad Week. That is a $30 million loss according to Awful Announcing…

The 2017 season is a full reversal of ad revenue that started falling last season. Ad growth saw a small 3 percent rise in 2016 while the 2015 season’s revenue grew by 9.6 percent over that of 2014…

With only three weeks until game day, NBC still has close to ten Super Bowl LII ad slots left unsold. The network is expecting to earn around $500 million in ad revenue for the big game.

It’s easy to lose perspective when huge numbers like this are being thrown around. Keep in mind, that any loss for a major sport is significant.

The NFL was expecting to make money off of their games. Not pay back money due to decreased viewership. A ten percent decline is a big deal. And it does not bode well for the future.

Next year, it might get worse. Then year after year. The NFL might be down billions in a matter of a decade. All because they were too cowardly to do the right thing.

The NFL will say it has to do with changes in the market. Fewer people are watching TV, etc., etc. But the truth is, while network television has suffered thanks to the Internet, the bright spot was always live sports.

You can’t watch a live NFL match anywhere but TV. Up until recently, networks could count on high ratings for NFL games. Suddenly, in the last two years, that hasn’t been the case.

Hmm, what happened in the last two years to affect viewership. Gee, nothing comes to mind!

If the league doesn’t deal with this problem swiftly, things might only get worse. They need to improve their image. They need to show Americans they don’t reward un-American hacks.

But they might not be willing to do so.
