West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin blasted Democrats for refusing to stand while President Trump was outlining his vision of a safer and stronger country during his first State of the Union address.
The Democratic Senator said that behavior displayed by his fellow Democrats at SOTU confirmed the lack of respect they have for the presidency.
“I was very, very upset when I saw the Republicans never, ever stood up with Barack Obama, and there were things I didn’t agree about President Obama in his speech,” he saidon MSNBC.
“But I was taught in West Virginia there’s a little bit of respect, and you should show that. And I did that then, and I did it last night,” he added.
“I think the Democrats were wrong in not showing respect,” Manchin said. “That’s just me.”
Manchin also appeared on Fox News and once again showed his disappointment seeing Democrats refusing to acknowledge Trump’s successes in the past year.
Manchin also praised Trump’s address and thanked the President for highlighting vital issues like coal production.
“I stood there and shook his hand and thanked him. Because he talked about coal. We’re going to do coal research and development. Opioid addiction. I need that. Infrastructure,” Manchin said.
“I never saw a pothole that belonged to a Democrat or Republican. We both get blamed for that one. We got to fix this stuff,” the Democratic Senator added.
Despite being a Democrat, Manchin comes across as a decent man. He is aware that people of his party went too far, spreading their hatred toward President Trump.
Blastin Democrats for showing disrespect at SOTU only shows that Manchin, although a Democrat, belongs more on the Republican side of the aisle. Do you agree with him? Share this post on Facebook and Twitter along with your comments.
