As usual, the pro-amnesty, RINO Bush clan was out in full force over the weekend, trashing President Donald Trump and propping up Democrats. This time, it was former First Lady Laura Bush who was speaking out, going so far as to call the Trump administration “immoral.” But then, total badass Sarah Huckabee Sanders came along and hit her where it hurts the most.
Former First Lady Laura Bush hopped on the bandwagon this weekend, criticizing the Trump administration for separating children from their parents when they cross the border illegally. Bush’s chastisement of Trump was even more eye-roll-inducing than others we have heard, however, as she was essentially slamming President Trump for enforcing immigration laws that were signed by her own husband.
“On Sunday, a day we as a nation set aside to honor fathers and the bonds of family, I was among the millions of Americans who watched images of children who have been torn from their parents,” Mrs. Bush wrote in an op-ed for The Washington Post. “In the six weeks between April 19 and May 31, the Department of Homeland Security has sent nearly 2,000 children to mass detention centers or foster care. More than 100 of these children are younger than 4 years old.”
“The reason for these separations is a zero-tolerance policy for their parents, who are accused of illegally crossing our borders,” continued Laura Bush, conveniently leaving out a very important detail — the “zero-tolerance policy” was signed into law by her own husband. “I live in a border state,” she opined. “I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.”
According to Breitbart, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders responded to Laura Bush’s op-ed on Monday. When asked about the president’s reaction to the article, Sanders said that Trump shared her concerns and urged Congress to change the laws that were driving the child crisis at the border.
“Frankly, this law was actually signed into effect in 2008 under her husband’s leadership, not under this administration,” Sanders said at the White House press briefing on Monday, referring to the Trafficking Victims Prevention Reauthorization Act signed by Bush in 2008.
Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen also said the law was in need of reform. “This law encourages families to put children in the hands of smugglers to bring them alone on this dangerous trek northward,” Nielsen explained during the White House press briefing. “And make no mistake, we’ve talked about this before — this trek is dangerous and deadly.”
Coincidentally, in 2014, the Obama administration also blamed the Bush-era law for the sudden influx of unaccompanied minors at the border. However, former First Lady Michelle Obama sided with Laura Bush in a statement on Monday. “Sometimes truth transcends party,” she wrote on Twitter.
As Sanders pointed out, previous administrations are responsible for either creating this problem or failing to fix it. “We’re not the ones responsible for creating this problem. We’ve inherited it,” she said. “But we’re actually the first administration stepping up and trying to fix it.”
We’ve seen the mainstream media, the Democrats, and RINO Republicans blame President Donald Trump for some pretty bogus stuff since he took office, but bashing him for enforcing laws he didn’t even sign off on really takes the cake. Every single day laws are enforced which were established by past administration. The vast majority of our laws, actually, were not created by President Donald Trump. This is absolutely ludicrous and, once again, speaks to the glaring hypocrisy of those who will seemingly do anything to paint our president in a negative light.
